Talking to God

Before joining Gen Clay and attending the LO Sister Conference, I didn’t truly understand the meaning of prayer. I thought it was something that had to be done at specific times, like before you went to bed and ate dinner, and required using "big words" to communicate with God. This made prayer feel like a chore, and I often skipped it because I didn't know those fancy words.
However, the conference and Gen Clay taught me that prayer can simply be a conversation with God. This realization transformed my relationship with Him. Now, I talk to God throughout the day, sharing my thoughts, worries, and joys. He has become my best friend, and prayer, aka talking with God, has brought so much peace and comfort into my life.
One of the most impactful lessons I learned is that God is always listening, and He doesn't require perfect words or formalities from us. It's about the sincerity of our hearts. Whether I'm feeling grateful, anxious, or just need someone to talk to, I know I can turn to Him at any moment. This has made my faith journey so much more personal and intimate.
Another thing that changed for me is how I view the small moments of my day. I used to think prayer had to be reserved for significant events or problems, but now I see that God is interested in every part of my life. From mundane tasks like doing the dishes to the more significant moments like planning my wedding, I invite Him into all of it. This constant communication has made me feel more connected and supported.
Incorporating prayer into my daily routine in this way has also helped me stay grounded. Life can get overwhelming, and it's easy to feel lost in the chaos. But by talking to God throughout the day, I find a sense of calm and clarity. It's like having a continuous source of strength and guidance, no matter what I'm facing.
So, if you're struggling with prayer or feeling disconnected from God, I encourage you to try this approach. Talk to Him like you would a friend. Share your highs and lows, your hopes and fears. You'll find that He's always there, ready to listen.
Verses to reflect on:
Matthew 6:6-13 & Luke 11:1-4
He tells us how to pray. Reflect on this message, be personal, and build that relationship with God just as Jesus did. We don’t need a big vocabulary or a speech prepared. Prayer is relational, not transactional, talk to Him as a friend.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
Pray to Him, and He will listen. Trust in Him and His plan.
Philippians 4:6-7
Bring your worries to God through prayer.
